While all manufacturers strive to make their implants as durable as possible, choices of materials can create limitations on the design of an implant. Ceramic, as an example, is considered a highly durable material for hip implants. However, current designs do not provide the same potential range of hip motion as Biomet's metal-on-metal hip component, made with another highly durable material with greater design flexibility.
